Permanent Senior Veterinary Surgeon - Southampton, Hampshire

We are recruiting for a Permanent Senior Veterinary Surgeon to join an independent small animal practice in Southampton. This role is full time for 4 days per week, along with 1 in 4 weekends. There will be no OOH work or on-call duties.

You will be a key member of the management team and therefore will drive the specialised surgical agenda within the practice whilst also being responsible for driving forward the patient experience and the clinical care and pet wellbeing and preventative services for pets as well as treating sick and injured animals.

The practice is proudly independent and continue to grow by investing in state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment within their practices to expand their orthopaedic and soft tissue cases.

The role involves a mixture of both consulting and operating each day and the practice ensure that they Vets also have time built into their day in order to do call backs, medications and lab analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the day to day running of the practice - such as managing the diary and monitoring daily takings
  • Working closely with the lead vet
  • Adhering to practice procedures and protocols
  • Management and non-clinical work including internal audits
  • Maintaining clinical notes
  • Lead by example
  • Communicate effectively with all staff members ensuring investigations and follow up care and treatments are completed
  • Provide excellent in-patient care
  • Provide full in-depth handovers of patients to other team members
  • Investigate and resolve any complaints
  • Support the management team in strategic management
  • Agree all CPD requirements for the vets
  • Rota management and working with the administration team on providing holiday cover

Key details:

  • Type: Small animal
  • Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week over 4 days on average, shifts between 8am and 7pm
  • Weekends: 1 in 4 weekends, 9am to 4pm
  • OOH: None
  • Team: 8 vets, 13 nurses and a supportive non-clinical team
  • Consultations: 15 minutes
