Permanent Mixed Veterinary Surgeon - Stranraer, Wigtownshire

  • Are you looking for mixed animal work with a varied caseload?

We are recruiting on behalf of a mixed animal practice in Stranraer, Wigtownshire for a Permanent Veterinary Surgeon to join their team.

This role is full time with shifts from 8:30am to 6pm with weekends on a rota and 2 in 10 nights on-call. You will receive half a day back in lieu on Fridays after working a weekend.

  • Type: Mixed animal
  • Hours: Full time, shifts from 8:30am to 6pm
  • Weekends: On a rota
  • TOIL: Half day Friday after working weekend on call.
  • OOH: 2 in 10 on-call
  • Computer system: Merlin
  • Consultations: 15 minutes
  • Team: 10 vets, 3 nurses and a supportive non-clinical team

The role

  • Mixed Animal role.
  • Full time position working Monday - Friday from 8.30am - 6.30pm. There is a shared weekend rota along with a 2:10 OOOH with half day Friday off in lieu after working a weekend.
  • The Vet will be joining a team of 10 Vets across two sites.
  • The role will involve a wide variety of cases, including dairy fertility, small animal consultations and surgery, fertility testing and horse work.
  • Flexible working and rota patterns available to accommodate a good work / life balance. EG Rota to work around the school run / holidays /lifestyle.
  • The Vet will be responsible for providing a high standard of veterinary care and customer service.
  • The Vet will be responsible to ensuring that there is excellent communication between themselves and the team and with clients.

About them:

  • Established Mixed Animal Practice with 2 sites.
  • RCVS accredited farm and small animal practice.
  • They encourage clinical freedom and the development of special interests.
  • They are fully equipped with facilities including a small and large animal ultrasound, bull and tup fertility kit, digital radiography and full in house laboratory.
  • They are located within the countryside within the southwest of Scotland and offer a plethora of outdoor activities.
  • They have a team of 10 Vets, 3 Nurses and 3 nursing assistants across two sites. One of the Vets hold a certificate in Cattle Health and Production.
  • The role offers a learning environment with plenty of support available for growth and development.
  • They support personal development with a generous CPD allowance and encourage and support certificates and additional training.
  • The practice provides a high standard of care and customer service to all its patients and clients.

  • They are looking for an enthusiastic Vet who enjoys the variety of mixed animal work with each day being different.
  • The Vet will be a team player and someone who is always looking to develop and improve their skills.
  • The vet will have excellent communications skills and a compassionate attitude along with excellent client facing skills. They will be able to build rapport and strong client relationships.
  • The Vet will be able to organise their own time well and remain calm under pressure.

  • Salary: Up to £70,000 per annum, commensurate to experience
  • Holidays: 6.8 weeks annual leave, increasing with service and birthday off
