Locum Mixed Veterinary Surgeon - Retford, Nottinghamshire

We are recruiting on behalf of a practice in Retford for a Locum Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to provide cover for 18 months on a fixed term basis.

The role involves working closely with small and farm animals, along with zoo and exotic animals. The role offers a fantastic workload and an opportunity for the Vet to develop their skills. The role will involve working across two sites one of which is in Retford and the other in Goole.

This role is full time with shifts between 8:30am and 7pm, along with Saturday mornings from 8:30am to 12pm on a rota. There will also be 2 in 6 OOH weekends and 1 OOH shift per week.

The role

  • The role involves Farm, Zoo, Small and Exotic animals
  • The Vet will be working across two sites providing consultations and procedures
  • The Vet will have the opportunity to work alongside an experienced Zoo team and have exposure to a great portfolio of cases, everything from exotic species to large mammals
  • There will be some sole charge work involved.
  • The Vet will receive ongoing support in order to be able to excel within the role.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Working and treating a variety of mixed species.
  • Consultations
  • Small and large animal surgical procedures
  • Looking after hospitalised in patients.
  • Planning treatment protocols
  • Liaising with clients
  • Providing OOH and sole charge care

About you

  • They are looking for a vet who has a good level of experience across companion and large animal species. Previous experience within a Zoo is not essential but welcomed.
  • The Vet will have a passion for Exotics.
  • You will have excellent communications skills and client facing skills
  • You will have a positive attitude and show empathy to both clients and team members
  • You will encourage ongoing development of the team
  • You will be a team player and be able to work in a collaborative manner

Package

  • Salary: Up to £63,000 pro rata, commensurate to experience
  • Holidays: 6.6 weeks annual leave, increasing with service and birthday off
  • CPD: Generous allowance of £1,500 with 5 days to attend
