Permanent Veterinary Surgeon - Birmingham, West Midlands

  • Are you a qualified and RCVS registered veterinary surgeon?
  • Are you looking for more clinical independence?

We are recruiting on behalf of a small animal practice in Birmingham for a Permanent Veterinary Surgeon to join their team. You must be comfortable working sole charge as this will be required. This role is full time for 4 days per week, along with 1 in 3 Saturdays and night duty vet rota. The practice are open to flexible working patterns.

  • Weekends: 1 in 3 Saturdays

  • Computer system: Merlin
  • Team: 6 vets and a large nursing team

The role

  • The role will involve a share of the OOH night duty and weekend rota.
  • The practice has three locations and the OOH service is provided within another branch in Bromsgrove.
  • The role involves working within a busy practice and requires a vet who is comfortable with sole charge as this is required at times.
  • The role is ideal for a Vet who enjoys working up their own cases.
  • The role will involve a mixture of consultations, medical work ups and surgeries
  • The Vet will be responsible to ensuring that there is excellent communication between themselves and the team and with clients.
  • Ongoing development and support for certificate study is available

  • Established small animal 1st opinion practice
  • 3 practice sites
  • They are a training practice
  • They have great road and rail links and are close to local shopping and restaurants along with country walks!
  • The practice provides a high standard of care and customer service to all its patients and clients.
  • They offer facilities including ultrasound, digital and dental x-ray, endoscope and an in house laboratory.
  • They focus on case continuity allowing the Vet to establish good working relationships with clients.

Team culture:

  • They pride themselves in being a supportive easy-going practice.
  • They regularly have social outings with all the team across three sites
  • They regularly hold practice meetings to ensure participation and discussions amongst all team members. Ways to improve are often discussed and every member of the team can put forward ideas and have a voice.
  • The Vets are supported with a high ratio of RVNs and as a training practice they collectively share the ethos of helping the next generation of RVNs.
  • The team comprises of certificate holding surgeons enabling a supportive and teaching environment.
  • They understand the importance of staff development so areas of special interest are supported.
  • The practice ethos is customer focused and they always strive to ensure that the client has the best possible experience.
  • They understand the difficulties that the vet industry can face, and they ensure that each member of staff support each other and strive each day to provide a positive and encouraging work environment

About you

  • They will be a team player and be able to establish strong working relationships
  • They are looking for an experienced Vet who enjoy both consulting and surgeries.
  • The Vet will be confident in and happy with some sole charge work when required (weekends and OOH)
  • The vet will have excellent communications skills and client facing skills and be able to build good working relationships easily
  • The vet will have a positive attitude and show empathy and warmth where required to both clients and team members

Package

  • Salary: Up to £65,000 per annum, commensurate to experience
  • Holidays: 6.6 weeks annual leave, increasing with service and birthday off
  • CPD: Generous allowance of £1,250 with 5 days to attend
