We are recruiting for a Permanent Head Veterinary Nurse to join a small animal hospital in Sutton. This role is full time with weekends on a rota. There will be no OOH work or on-call duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete all aspects of nursing duties and assisting veterinary surgeons
  • Supervise the nursing and ancillary staff
  • Clinical coaching duties for SVNs
  • Provide council to all nursing and ancillary team where required on performance
  • Liaise with the Senior Vet to ensure that schedule 3 procedures are maximised for all suitable and trained RVNs
  • Organise rotas and liaise with senior Vet and regional team to ensure all practice needs are met
  • The RVN will be involved with part of the recruitment process within the practice
  • Assist the management team with the administration that is needed to complete the smooth day to day running of the practice.
  • Take responsibility for monitoring stock control and adhering to budget
  • Reception enquiries when required
  • Liaise with clients and ensure accurate information is passed on regarding their pets
  • Co-ordinate training for Nurses and Animal Care assistants - liaise with management team
  • Ensure opportunities are available for team members to gain experience and provide support and encourage where necessary
  • Induction training of new staff members
  • Assist management with performance reviews
  • Ensure staff are compliant with Health and Safety Policies

Benefits

The HVN will be joining a team of an experienced Vet and three support team members. There is plenty of support available for the head nurse in order to develop their clinical skills and knowledge with ongoing internal courses. There is also clinical coach training as well as training to help communicate delicate information to clients.

About you

  • The head nurse will ideally have some previous leadership experience and additional training is provided
  • You will have a good amount of nursing experience in all aspects of nursing
  • You will have good organisational skills
  • You must have a friendly and compassionate attitude and be approachable at all times
  • You will be ambitious to continue with further education and training
  • You will be forward thinking and always looking at ways to develop the clinical nursing team further
  • You will enjoy running nurse clinics
  • You will have experience in clinical coaching and or happy to become a clinical coach
  • You will enjoy leading a team and providing ongoing support to fellow team members
  • You must be motivated and passionate about your work and share this and promote this ethos with other members of staff
  • You will enjoy mentoring others and leading by example
  • You will enjoy working as part of a team
  • You will have a genuine passion for animal welfare
  • You will consistently deliver a high standard of clinical care

Package:

  • Salary: Up to £32,500 per annum, commensurate to experience
