We are recruiting a Permanent Head Veterinary Nurse to join a small animal practice in Old Kent Road, South London. This role is full time with 1 in 4 Saturdays from 9am to 6pm and Sundays from 11am to 5pm. There will be no OOH work or on-call duties.

The HVN will be joining a team of 4.5 vets, 3 RVNs and 2 SVNs. The role will involve assisting with the day to day running of the practice and ensuring a high standard of care is provided to both patients and clients. The HVN will also perform a clinical role within the practice and lead by example. This is an excellent opportunity for a Nurse who is looking to take a step up in their career and move into a leadership role.

Duties include:

  • Schedule three procedures and treatments
  • Taking diagnostics
  • Assisting the vets in theatre and providing post-op care
  • In patient care
  • HR duties and policies
  • Dispensing drugs
  • Dealing with client queries
  • Nurse consultations
  • Working closely with the lead vet and branch partner to ensure the smooth day to day running of the practice
  • Provide mentoring to less experienced team members

They are looking for a confident nurse who has a genuine passion for animal welfare. They must be able to work well with others and have excellent customer service skills.

The practice are dedicated to providing a high standard of clinical and patient care so it is important that the nurse shares this ethos and actively promotes this. They must have an enthusiastic can do attitude and be able to make decisions on their own when required and take ownership of their tasks.

  • Computer system: RX Works
  • Consultations: 15 minutes
  • Team: 4.5 vets, 3 RVNs, 2 SVNs, 1 VCA and a supportive non-clinical team

About you

  • A HVN who is comfortable leading by example
  • A HVN with great communication and organisation skills
  • A HVN who is confident with theatre work and nurse clinics
  • A HVN will a keen interest in the practice as a business, as well as how to motivate a team to achieve goals
  • Previous HVN experience would be advantageous, or previous experience managing a team or clinical coaching
  • A HVN who will embrace all aspects of the role
  • A strong team leader and someone who will take full responsibility for the day-to-day operations in the practice
  • A HVN who has excellent all-round nursing skills
