Permanent Equine Veterinary Surgeon

EQUINE VETS, are you searching for a friendly independent practice with focus on good medicine, rather than only money?

We are searching for an Equine Vet to join a small-sized mixed independent practice on a permanent basis in Walsall. They offer first opinion ambulatory care as well as having a visiting specialist, you will be working from their new equine extension.

The practice is extremely well established, with a loyal client base in the area, as well as working collaboratively withlocal specialists.

They are well equipped with portable x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopic equipment and motorised dentistry. Stud work is one of the main areas they specialise in, but would however welcome anyone with a different interest which could widen the range of offered services.

They would welcome any special interests, but attitude and team spirit are equally important. Part time applicants with the right approach will be also considered.

Key Details:

The practice is family owned and has an experienced supportive friendly team of vets and nurses, with a variety of interests and experience levels.

The successful candidate will have at least 1 years experience with the willing to learn and advance

Full time would consist off an average of 32 hours a week (4 days ) 9.00am to 5.00/6.00pm to compensate for 1:3 share in OOH rota.

1 in 3 OOH but, nurses take the phone and only call you in it's an emergency - Very quiet on the OOH front through.

1 in 3 Weekends on call, again you are only called out should there be an emergency

Paid lunch breaks and you do get 1 hour break for this each day

Yearly bonus up to 10% of your salary based on team, professional and financial performance.

Possible partnership opportunities available - to be discussed

Equine hospitalisation facilities, DR X-ray machine, laparoscopy, reproductive medicine (equine embryo transfer, AI) etc.

They can accommodate any special interest in either domain and with visiting specialists in SA and equine medicine and surgery, you will be able to learn with them, while having autonomy to work up your own cases and do 'proper' medicine as it should be.

Equine Facilities - These include but are not limited to:

Stabling and Foaling boxes with Close Circuit Television

Equine Surgical facilities for standing and general surgery

In house Laboratory for rapid diagnosis of medical problems

Digital X-rays with mobile machine allowing x-rays to be taken at your yard

Four Ultrasound machines two of which have Doppler capability

Video-endoscopy

Arthroscope for diagnosis and treatment of joint problems e.g. chips, infections

Laparoscope for surgical removal of ovaries, rig surgery administration of PGE to oviducts

Dental equipment including motorised dental equipment, diastema drills and cheek tooth removal equipment

About You:

You must have a strong work ethic and provide an excellent high standard of clinical service

You will be competent in all areas of routine surgeries and medical cases

You will be happy to mentor others

You will want to contribute to the practice enabling them to stay at the forefront of clinical thinking whilst also maintaining the ethos of providing a high standard of clinical care

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop a great rapport with both clients and staff

You will be a strong team player

The Package:

Salary between 35,000 - 65,000 depending on experience

25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and your Birthday off

Paid lunch breaks and you do get 1 hour break for this each day

Yearly bonus up to 10% of your salary based on team, professional and financial performance.
