Locum Mixed Veterinary Surgeon - Penrith, Cumbria

We are recruiting on behalf of an independent mixed animal practice in Penrith for a Locum Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to provide cover from as soon as possible on an ongoing basis. The practice sees mainly farm animal patients with some small animal work for on-call and at weekends. There will be no equine work.

The practice is looking for a vet who has at least 2 years of experience in a mixed animal practice, excellent communication skills in order to inform and support clients, competence in routine surgeries and the ability to create evidence-based treatment plans. You must be passionate about keeping up to date with your own professional development.

The role will be full time for 4 days per week, including 1 long weekend off every 5 weeks. There will be a weekend on-call rota and 2 in 5 OOH on-call shifts. When working on-call, the duties are shared between 2 on-call vets. Accommodation is available.

Key details:

  • Type: Mixed animal, 90% farm animal and 10% small animal, no equine
  • Start date: ASAP
  • End date: Ongoing
  • Hours: Full time, 4 days per week, including 1 long weekend (Friday to Monday) off every 5 weeks
  • Weekends: On-call rota, duties shared between 2 on-call vets
  • OOH: 2 in 5
  • On-call: Weekend on-call rota
  • Sole charge: None
  • Branch work: N/A
  • Consultations: 15 minutes
  • Team: 5 LA vets, 1 SA vet, 2 nurses and a supportive non-clinical team
  • Accommodation: Provided

  • Emergency and routine callouts
  • Fertility testing
  • Mastitis and lameness investigations

  • In-house laboratory
  • X-ray

Must haves:

  • RCVS registered and qualified or soon to be
  • Possess the right to work in the United Kingdom
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
