Job description

We are recruiting a Clinical Director to join a small animal practice in Portsmouth.

The practice is looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Clinical Director to lead a team and ensure the continual delivery of exceptional clinical care.

Responsibilities:

  • The Clinical Director will be responsible for engaging with Vets and Nurse and the non-clinical team to ensure there is ongoing commitment to the overall aims of the company.
  • The Clinical Director will demonstrate leadership skills and be responsible for the overall practice to provide excellent veterinary service.
  • The Clinical Director will have excellent communication skills and be able to provide constructive feedback to staff, have excellent listening skills, identify staff skills, and provide appreciation and praise where applicable.
  • The Clinical Director will have intuition skills and have a certain level of emotional intelligence to identify any staff issues and understand feelings. They will have perceptiveness and be able to ensure the well being of their team.
  • The Clinical Director will demonstrate flexibility within their leadership style in be able to adapt where required in order to continue to sustain an harmonious working atmosphere
  • The Clinical Director will oversea the teams CPD requirements and ensure it is sourced and completed and passed throughout the team.
  • The Clinical Director will provide opportunities for the team to contribute to the success of the practice by encouraging and implementing new ideas thus creating a motivational ethos within the team.
  • The Clinical Director will ensure that the forward-thinking culture within the practice is maintained and therefore will implement any operational changes which can lead to the continual growth of the practice.
  • The Clinical Director will also be responsible for all finance and key performance indicators for the practice.

Clinical and practice responsibilities:

  • The Clinical Director will ensure that all clinical examinations, diagnostics and surgical and dental procedures are carried out compassionately and with the highest quality of care.
  • The Clinical Director will ensure all treatments and care are based on the most up to date principles so therefore they are expected to apply constant attention to literature and be able to re-evaluate methods and consider new concepts.
  • The Clinical Director will ensure that all members of the team are able to build good working relationships with all clients and build ongoing rapport. They will ensure all team members demonstrate empathy and provide a high level of clinical care.

About the practice:

This is an established practice with all the latest diagnostic technology and facilities. If you have an orthopaedic bias, then the facilities are well suited to this passion. The practice sees a wide variety of cases including more complex surgeries which enables the development of clinical skills and knowledge. The role offers the clinical director the opportunity to take part in a wide range of clinical activities.

About the role

The position offers an excellent work / life balance by working a 4-day week with a generous 1:4 weekend rota. This equals out at around 37 Hours per week. The practice boasts a professional and friendly team of 2 Vet, 4 Nurses and 1 SVN along with supporting nonclinical staff.

As a Clinical Director you would be expected to have a wider role not only within the practice but also within the group and continually input into activities and the direction of the company. The right candidate would be passionate about clinical coaching, teaching and mentoring colleagues. This is a management position, so it is vital that the right candidate is keen to move into this area. Previous experience in leading a team is also required. You must be highly experienced in all areas of veterinary medicine and procedures, so it is advantageous if you have 10 years post qualified experience. There is a generous package which is commensurate with experience.

  • Type: Full time 37 hours per week
  • Hours: 4 Days per week
  • Weekends: 1:4 Rota
  • OOH: None
  • Sole Charge: Occasionally
  • Team: 2 Vet, 4 Nurses and supporting staff

  • An orthopaedic bias would be advantageous
  • You will have previous experience in a leadership role
  • You will be ambitious and looking to take on a managerial role
  • You will be passionate about coaching, teaching and mentoring colleagues to utilise their skills to the maximum

  • You will actively input into the progression of the practice and the company ensuring both remain at the forefront of clinical thinking

  • You will have excellent communication and customer service skills
  • You will have a caring attitude and strive to continually improve your professional knowledge
  • You will have a genuine passion for animal welfare and actively educate owners about their pets

  • Salary: Commensurate on experience
