Job description

We are working with an independent, small animal, family run veterinary practice in Peterborough who are currently recruiting for registered veterinary nurses to join them permanently. Due to the way they work and the current team, they are open to full or part time applicants and are open to being flexible. A full-time role would involve working 40 hours per week between 8:30am and 7:00pm each day, as well as being involved in the 1 in 6 weekend rotas.

The practice is modern and spacious offering a wide range of Veterinary services. They have a large supporting team and see a wide variety of cases. They also boast visiting specialists in orthopaedics, soft tissue, and interesting cases.

Duties:

Main duties: Theatre, x-ray, clinics, anaesthetics, assisting vets, reception duties

Key Details:

  • Type: Small animal only
  • Hours Mon-Fri: 08.15 - 19:15 comprising ideally of 4 x 10hrs preferable or possibly the practice will consider 5 x 8 mixture including at least one 7.15 finish
  • Practice is open from 8:30am until 7:00pm each day.
  • Weekends: 1 in 6 on a rota basis, Saturdays 8:30am-12:30pm and Sunday 10am until 12pm.
  • Sole charge: None required
  • OOH rota/Hours: No OOH but the nurse would be expected to stay if on occasion an emergency or work-up comes in near closing - TOIL / Overtime paid
  • Team: 4 Vets, 6 RVNs, 2 Kennel Assistants and other support staff
  • Computer system: Idexx Animana
  • Time of in lieu: Yes, or paid overtime at hourly rate.
  • Branch work: No
  • Team: Practice Manager, 5 vets (2 are Practice Owners), 5 RVNs, 2 Student Nurses, 1 Kennel Assistant, 4 Reception staff, 1 Kennel Cleaner, 1 Housekeeper.

About the practice:

This is an independent forward thinking practice whose ethos is to always put the pet first and dedicate their time in enabling as much time can be spent together with both the client and the patient. They very much focus on proactive and preventative healthcare as opposed to just reactive healthcare, so it is important that the nurse shares this ethos and is happy to help educate clients on the best way to take care of their pet.

They have state of the art equipment and offer a wide range of modern veterinary services and facilities - these included In house laboratory, keyhole equipment, DR Radiography, Ultrasound, dental x-rays, anaesthetic monitors and everything needed to make hospitalisation comfortable.

About the role

The nurse must have good customer service and communication skills. must be confident and outgoing and be able to think on their feet. The position involves all round general nursing from assisting the veterinary surgeon in theatre, to administering medications, recording results, and greeting clients so a good solid background in these areas would be ideal. Areas of special interest are supported and CPD is offered along with time off to attend as part of the package.

The Package:

  • Salary : 20k - 25k DOE , up to 27 for very experienced/senior nurse
  • 500 CPD allowance per annum + paid additional days
  • Holiday Allowance: 5.5 weeks + bank holidays!
  • Pension: Nest, government standard.

  • Fees Paid: VDS, BVNA, RCVS

Must haves:

RCVS Registered & Qualified or soon to be.

Possess the right to work in the United Kingdom.
