Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurses to join an independent practice in the stunning coastal town of Bournemouth Dorset. This role offers a fantastic work / life balance with no weekends and no ooh involved! Monday- Friday only with time off in lieu if worked any overtime!

They also focus on employee wellbeing offering a great environment to work in. The Nurse would be working alongside 2 Vets, 2 other nurses and 2 student nurses.

The practice offers a wide range of modern veterinary services and is fully equipped with diagnostics including ultrasound, radiology and digital x-ray and offers a full range of orthopaedic services and surgeries and soft tissue surgeries.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Veterinary Surgeons
  • Completing all general nursing duties
  • Nurse consultations
  • Carry out and complete specific tasks as allocated by the Head Nurse.
  • Ensure that you are organised and prepared for cases that are coming in
  • Administer treatments - EG injections, fluids, and dressings etc
  • Dispense medication as per the Veterinary Surgeons instructions
  • Keep accurate records
  • Caring for in patients including pre op, medications and recovery and monitoring
  • Report progress of in patients to clients
  • Ensure you keep accurate records with regards to medical records, anaesthetic sheets, hospitalisation forms etc.
  • The practice is looking for an RVN who has a compassionate and empathetic attitude along with excellent communication skills. It is important that the RVN is team player.

  • Team: 2 Vets 2 Nurses and 2 SVNS
  • Main duties: General RVN duties as above

The Person:

  • The practice can support an experienced Nurse or a newly graduated Nurse
  • It is essential the Nurse is a team player and works well as part of a team with no blame culture
  • They will enjoy and embrace all aspects of the role
  • It is advantageous if the nurse enjoys coaching and mentoring student nurses
  • They will have sound knowledge of all aspects of RVN duties and responsibilities - for more experienced RVNs
  • They will have excellent communication skills.
  • They will have excellent client care skills and be able to build client relationships easily.
  • They will remain calm under pressure and be able to multitask where appropriate
  • They will have an enthusiastic and motivated attitude with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • They will be ambitious and motivated to develop and utilise all their clinical skills.

RCVS registered and qualified
