Job description

A charity Hospital in Portsmouth are recruiting a full time Team Leader Veterinary Nurse to join their team. This is a 37.5 hr working week.

This is an established busy practice which has recently been through a refurbishment. It is fully equipped with all the latest technology and sees a wide variety of cases from routine to more complex.

They have a high caseload and need an additional veterinary nurse to join them. They are currently working slightly differently delivering consultations both face to face and remotely.

The practice requires a veterinary nurse who provides a high standard of customer service and clinical care. Educating clients on pet healthcare and preventative health measures is vitally important so the Veterinary Nurse would be expected to share this ethos.

About the role

The Team Leader will be responsible for supporting the head Nurse and will help take part in the leadership of the whole nursing team to ensure the continual provision of Veterinary Care services in line with practice policies and procedures.

They will be responsible for providing line management up to 10 other Veterinary Nurses and will take part in all aspects of general nursing within the practice from inpatient care, nurse consultations, administering medications and educating clients on pet welfare and encouraging contributions to the clinic. Team Leaders are also responsible for deputising for the Head Nurse should they be absent for annual leave or sickness.

The role involves all aspects of nursing from in patient care, to assisting in theatre, carrying out consultations, administrations, and discharges. All nurses are offered the opportunity to work to their full potential and they perform nurse consultations regularly along with schedule 3 work.

Key Details:

  • Nurse shifts typically are from 8am - 4.30pm to 9.30am to 6pm
  • 37.5 Hours per week
  • No OOH, as this is fully outsourced - Vets Now do night cover on site.

  • Clinical staff typically work 1 in 11 weekends

About the Role:

The Nurse will be working as part of the team with a variety of duties from supporting the theatre, inpatient care, consults, admission, dispensing medications, maintaining hygiene and encouraging financial contributions.

The hospital building is well equipped with plenty of consulting space allowing them to meet the demands of this busy small practice.

The caseload is very varied on a day to day basis

There is an opportunity to perform schedule three surgeries with training and support

  • Salary 23,560 -24,267 Pro rata
