**Exciting opportunity for a Senior Surgeon in Castleford**

We are recruiting for a Permanent Senior Veterinary surgeon to run a small animal practice in Castleford. The practice is one of multi sites across the region.

Job Details:

This is a full-time position offering a 4-day week with a 1:4 weekend rota which is based at the animal hospital close by. Working hours mid-week are 9am - 7pm with that all important hour for lunch. The practice keeps the last hour of the day free from appointments and this time is usually spent for client call backs and for reporting lab results and following up on cases.

Bank holiday cover is shared amongst the team throughout the year but there is no ooh.

The practices are fully equipped with all the latest diagnostic toys including digital x-ray, ultrasound, ventilator, endoscopy, tonopen and in house laboratory. There is also overnight support provided at the closest animal Hospital for more critical/complex cases requiring 24/7 nursing.

Daily duties:

The role involves consulting, case work ups and surgery. The practice strongly believes in encouraging all members of the team to utilise their skills fully whilst and they also provide training so that they may continue to develop their clinical skill set and knowledge. There is also a large team of 14 Vets and 16 RVNs who have varied post graduate qualifications alongside a large customer service support team. The Surgical Director within the practice is an Advanced Practitioner in Surgery with a certificate in imaging. The practice also have a visiting Advanced Practitioner in Cardiology who also has a certificate in Medicine. They also have a permanent Vet within the team who has a GP certificate in Surgery.

The practice is looking for an experienced and confident Vet and someone who is looking for a career step into a more senior role with more responsibility.

The Vet must be able to work up and follow through with cases, be confident in sole charge work and most general surgeries. They must be able to train others, setting a positive example and provide ongoing mentoring and support where required to fellow team members. They must also have great communication skills as they will be required to provide constructive feedback in training situations. They will ensure the smooth day to day running of the practice and maintain the positive work culture. Areas of special interest are supported, and funding is available for Vets wishing to pursue one. The practice encourages a collaborative approach with team sharing of ideas and cases across all departments.

The practice provides a supportive and friendly environment to work in with regular social outings together. They provide a wellbeing group and ongoing support to ensure mental health and physical health care are kept in excellent condition and to ensure the happiness of all team members.

This is a large multi branch practice with a brand-new hospital built in 2020. All branches and the hospital are equipped with all state-of-the-art facilities and equipment as one would expect including Orthopaedics, Acupuncture, Physiotherapy, visiting CT and MRI and more.

Package:

  • Salary: 50,000 - 60,000 Commensurate to experience Certificate holders / experience may negotiate a higher salary
  • Holiday allowance: 5 weeks annual leave plus bank holiday entitlement - shared bank holiday rota.
