Job description

We are recruiting a permanent farm/large animal veterinary surgeon to work in an established large animal practice near Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire.

This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday (8:30am - 5:30pm), with a 1 in 4/5 weekend rota and no OOH. This role would be ideal for an experienced vet with over 5 years of experience in a similar position.

About the role

They are looking for an enthusiastic and personable farm animal veterinary surgeon to join a team of 8 other senior farm animal vets. There is also support team. There is a varied client base ranging from commercial dairy, beef, small ruminant and camelid, to small holders, open farms, colleges, and pet farm animals. Workload is a mix of routine fertility work, health planning, sick animal work and TB testing, with occasional animal/product exports. If you are interested in teaching and veterinary education, our client routinely have farm rotation students from the University of Surrey.

  • Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30 - 5:30
  • Weekends: Yes on a rota , usually 1 in 4/5
  • OOH: Only very occasionally
  • Sole Charge: Occasionally when on call
  • Team: 8 Vets, Team of supporting staff
  • Consultations: 15 Minutes

Person:

  • You will be an enthusiastic and passionate farm animal vet
  • You will be able to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with farm clients
  • You will promote the ethos of prediction and prevention as opposed to test and treat
  • You will be a forward-thinking veterinary surgeon
  • You will have a full understanding of the business needs of a farmer as well as a veterinary practice
  • You will be committed to delivering a high standard of clinical care
  • You will be self-motivated and able to organise your own diary whilst co-operating with fellow vets and support team.

Package:

  • Salary - around 45,000 - incremental rises with experience and qualifications and performance
