Job description
We are recruiting for a Mixed Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join an independent mixed animal practice in Northamptonshire.
This position is an Ambulatory Equine / Farm Animal role with 80% of the work Equine and 20% Farm animal. There is no TB testing involved with the Farm animal work.
This is an independent large mixed animal practice with a highly experienced Veterinary team comprising of 12 Vets, 13 Nurses and supporting nonclinical staff. The practice require an additional Veterinary Surgeon to join their existing ambulatory team of 5 Vets.
This is an established large independent mixed animal practice which is passionate and dedicated to providing excellent Veterinary Care for all creatures great and small. They have a fantastic reputation within the area and have a highly experienced Veterinary team with a wide variety of special interests.
About the role
The position involves mainly Equine and working with competition and pleasure horses alongside some stud and race work. On the farm Animal side this would mainly be emergencies only that would be required. The role involves working up cases as far as possible using equipment available which includes a wireless digital X-Ray Machine, battery powered URT endoscope or gastroscope, diode or therapeutic laser a choice of 3 scanner and a powered dental kit. There is also a inhouse blood machine available.
The rota is equally shared between the 5 other Vets and there is one long weekend off every 5 weeks. The right Vet must be passionate and dedicated with a caring and compassionate attitude. Establishing excellent working relationships with clients is very important along with working well as part of a team. The role offers full support from the clinical partners along with a large amount of supporting staff. Due to the level of support the practice are able to consider applications from newly graduated Veterinary Surgeons.
Responsibilities include:
Covering 24 hour care where necessary
Receiving telephone calls: offering advice, explaining results: discussing tests etc
The Vet is responsible for the correct pricing of all cases and to inform the client in line with the RCVS Guide to Professional Conduct.
The vet will be responsible for the health and safety of the animal
The Vet will remain professional at all time
The Vet will follow the protocols and policies set by the practice accordingly
The Vet will record drugs and services used in the booking sheet daily along with clinical notes
The Vet will ensure that the Equine reception are fully aware of their whereabouts throughout the day

Package:
Salary - 35,000 - 55,000 pro rata
