Job description

We are working with an independent practice in Ingatestone Essex who require a Veterinary Nurse to provide maternity cover from August 2022 onwards.

Key Details:

  • Start: August
  • End: Ongoing
  • Hours - Mon - Fri: Shifts vary from 7am-4pm, 8am-5pm, 10am-7pm or 12am-8pm. One hour's unpaid lunch break is allocated each shift.
  • Weekend rota/hours: 1 in 4 weekends. Weekend hours = 12pm-8pm Friday, 8am-5pm Saturday and Sunday.
  • OOH rota/Hours: When working a weekend the nurses are 'on call' for that weekend, so the nurse will take a pager home from 8pm Friday to 7am the following Monday. The vet will call or page the nurse if they need assistance with an emergency appointment outside of normal weekend working hours. Night checks and medications are done by intern vets who live above the practice. Nurses must be within 30 minutes of the hospital when on call, there is a nurses bedroom on site for the on call nurse to stay in if they wish.
  • Time of in lieu: The following Friday and Monday are given as TOIL after working a weekend.
  • Computer system: Eclipse
  • Branch work: Minimal. There are two branches close by and are staffed by separate nurses who provide holiday or sickness cover when required.
  • Team: 9 small animal vets, 9 small animal RVNS, 2 employed SVNs, 3 nursing assistants.
  • Main duties: in-patient care, taking blood samples, radiography, anaesthesia, dental work, theatre nurse, some nurse consults.
  • Culture of the practice: Independently run practice, friendly staff who all work well as a team.
  • Practice Facilities: Ultrasound, endoscopy, digital radiography, dental radiography, laboratory technician Mon-Fri

Must haves:

RCVS Registered & Qualified or soon to be.

Possess the right to work in the United Kingdom.

Have excellent verbal / written communication skills
